COFFEE- A FLAVORED BITTERSWEET LOVE

I can tell that most of people in our society are drinking coffee as their preferred beverage, but how many of you guys know the COFFEE as healthy drink? So I am here trying to widen your views about this aromatic drink. So let’s get started to explore this…….

COFFEE is the main source of ; caffeine, vitamin B2, magnesium, plant chemicals (like polyphenols including chlorogenic acid and quinic acid). As per Dietary guidelines(USA) one person should consume 400 mg caffeine per average on a day.

So can you guys ever imagined this that the coffee you usually drink to avoid laziness is actually maintaining your daily diets???

Now a question should be there on your mind that “usually people say coffee harms our bodies, it contains different amount of calories and can effect our sleeping but here I am saying it is actually controlling our diets in a good way…Am I actually telling the truth??? let’s find out about this by following paragraphs.

Actually researchers already found that by the consumption of coffee, the risk of liver cancer lowers by 40%. Also it can be 50% if the person consumes 3 cups of coffee per day. World Health Organization(WHO) included coffee in a list of possible carcinogens in 1991. In 2016, it was already concluded that coffee was not associated with increased risk of cancer but on the other hand it decreases the risk of cancer. So we can tell that if consumed in a moderate amount this beverage can be considered as one of healthy beverages.

On summarizing —

low to moderate(50–300mg): increase alertness, increase energy, increase the ability to concentrate

but on higher consumption : negative effects are shown like anxiety, restlessness, increased heartrate and insomnia etc.

Coffee controls the diseases like Cancer, Type 2 diabetes, Heart health, Depression, Gallstones, Neurodegenerative diseases( like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease) and it can also generate Mortality(i.e. lowers the death rate)

Health benefits like painkilling, increasing the fiber intake, developing stronger DNA(stronger integrity since WBC of coffee drinkers had far fewer instances of breakage of DNA strand), lower risk of multiple sclerosis, preventing retinal damage, black coffee also prevents cavities, having stronger bones and so on.

Let me give you a break from all these researchable facts by asking you a simple question. So in your opinion, “what actually defines a cup of coffee?” Give your thoughts and opinions on this to me by sending me comments and feedbacks also.

Moving on to my side, let me tell you my thoughts about this. In my opinion COFFEE is mixture of more than a thousand chemicals (since I am a Chemistry graduation student). What defines a cup of coffee can be said that the type of coffee beans used, how it is roasted, the amount of grind and how it is brewed. The brewing can be different at shop and at home. So we use these components according to our needs.

So actually what do you know about COFFEE ???

Coffee is extracted coffee beans. Coffee beans are the seeds of a fruit called coffee cherry (you can see the image below). Coffee cherry grow on coffee trees from a genus of a plant called COFFEA. There are wide variety of species of coffee plants present that is ranging from shrubs to trees.

[COFFEE CHERRY]

ARABICA and ROBUSTA are the main two types of coffee beans. Arabica originates from Ethiopia and it produces mild, flavorful tasting coffee. Arabica is most popular and expensive, since it is sensitive to environment (i.e. requiring humidity, shade, steady temperature 60–75F). On the other hand Robusta is more economical and resistant to disease. It survives in wide range of temperature(65–90F), harsh climate(rainfall and sunlight).

Type of Roasting and Grinding —

The aroma and flavor we look for in a coffee mainly comes from chemical changes occurred due to high heat during roasting of coffee beans following the process of cooling and brewing. Roasting levels range from light-medium-dark. The lighter roasting gives more aromatic flavor and it has higher acidity level. Oppositely dark roasting produces black bean which is normally with a bitter flavor and it has little acidity. The popular French roast is medium dark.

Similarly grind can be both medium and fine. Medium grind is most common used in automatic drip coffee makers. Fine grind is used for flavors like Espresso, which are deep in flavors.

So guys.. let me freshen up your minds. Are you guys believe in Myths? Well, I am telling you all a fact that we people always believe in unbelievable facts. This sounds interesting and naive right!! but this is how we are…So let’s explore this type of facts about our favorite beverage COFFEE.
